Gemmology

Gemmology

The Gemmology Laboratory started its operation in March 2008. It is equipped with both conventional gemstone testing instruments as well as high-tech equipment. Our personnel are qualified gemmologists who have been trained in the field of gemmology and diamond grading at the Gemmological Institute of India and at the Gemmological Institute of America, Mumbai.

The objective of the Gemmology Laboratory is to provide the public and the jewellers with an independent objective opinion regarding the authenticity and quality of gemstones, thus ensuring public trust and confidence.

The laboratory offers the following services:

  1. Verification of gemstones;  and

  2. Grading of diamonds.

Verification of Gemstones

Gemstone verification is a complete analysis of a gemstone to determine its authenticity based on its physical properties such as refractive index, specific gravity, absorption spectra etc.

Verification of gemstones also distinguishes synthetic gemstones from their natural counterparts and also includes detecting gemstone treatments.

The Gemmology Laboratory certifies gemstones as per international standards.

The Laboratory offers the following services pertaining to gemstones:-

  1. Verification of all species and varieties of gemstones, except pearls.

Diamond Grading

Gemmology

The Gemmology laboratory has been offering diamond grading services since 2011. Grading of diamond is carried out by qualified diamond graders. Identification of diamond from its synthetic counterparts and its simulants forms part of the grading procedure.

Diamond grading consists of providing a comprehensive analysis of the quality and authenticity of diamonds based on the “4Cs” namely Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat Weight. A diamond at the Gemmology laboratory is graded by a minimum of two Graders.

Diamond Reports issued by the laboratory give an accurate assessment of the “4C’s” of a diamond as per international standards.
